Some companies are restricting the use of USB ports. In one scam, someone leaves a flash drive on a restroom shelf at a bank. An employee finds it and inserts it into the USB port on his computer to see what's on it. Instantly, the drive installs a malicious code that copies customer data and sends it via the bank's e-mail system to a computer overseas.

Microsoft fixes 8 flaws with 4 patches; none critical

Microsoft today released its June 2008 security bulletin highlighting items all considered important but not critical. They are for Domain Name Service in Windows, Windows Explorer within Windows Vista, Outlook Web Access (OWA), and Microsoft SQL servers.

Microsoft sets Windows XP SP3 automatic download for Thursday

The vague timetable that Microsoft gave Monday for pushing out Windows XP SP3 to most users got specific Tuesday as the company quietly said it would release the upgrade on Thursday at 10 a.m. PDT.

Apple patches 25 flaws with latest update

On Monday, Apple released Mac OS X 10.5.4. In addition to enhancements to existing features, Apple bundled in 13 specific security updates, including one for Safari 3.1.2. The security update APPLE-SA-2008-004 and Mac OS X 10.5.4 can be downloaded and installed from Apple Downloads.
